Easter 2012

Easter 2012 was great!  David felt awesome the whole weekend and not only enjoyed church and all the Easter festivities, but he played in a Tball scrimmage on Saturday.  He is definitely worn out today, and we are heading to get labs done this afternoon at the doctor's office. :(
Not only did we make empty tomb cookies, but after church at 10 a.m. we came home and made resurrection rolls.  Look how cute they turned out!  They definitely look more like empty tombs than our cookies did:)  I am not the greatest baker.  The resurrection rolls were an awesome snack until my extended family could come down for lunch.  We were so impressed that we made it to the 9 a.m. service!!  While I showered Mike got the kids ready!  I was so impressed:)
Here is my grandmother, GG, and the kids.
Here is Pops,  Pop's Momma (Memaw) and the boys.  We were excited that she felt well enough to join us for the day.
GG made most of the lunch and brought it with her.
The kids were playing in the yard and I snapped a few pictures of them after church.  Hope's hair bow had fallen out, David's shirt was untucked, but that is okay!
My sweet three!
My strong-willed but sweet girl.  She loves wearing a good twirly dress these days and I had to pry it off of her at bedtime!
David felt so good:)

Yesterday in church we sang "Oh Happy Day" and I just could not help but grin and sing loud!  I love that song and it was just so awesome to worship with David by our side.  We know the next 6-8 weeks are going to be rough with intense, full chemo doses, but yesterday it just made us so happy to sing "Oh Happy Day" because our Risen Savior is alive and walks with us each and everyday!

Oh Happy Day
Happy Day
You Washed my Sin Away
Oh Happy Day
Happy day
I'll Never Be The Same
Forever I am Changed

Easter

Easter this year is so much more meaningful because of the nightmare.  I usually am so consumed with what outfits the kids are wearing, getting a million pictures, and enjoying the fluffy side of easter.  This year, I have yet to pick out what they are wearing and frankly it does not matter.  Cancer has taught me not to sweat the small stuff, and coordinating Easter clothes is definitely small potatoes:)

The other day when I was driving home from UVA, I checked facebook and saw that FUMC had posted this song to the church's facebook page. I clicked on it to listen to the music while I drove and five minutes later tears were rolling down my face.  Please take a moment and watch this video and listen to this amazing song.  (First pause the blog music on the right). It is the death of Jesus from his momma, Mary's perspective.

My heart is so tendered to Mary who had to witness this horrific death of her precious babe. She was human just like us and had to wrap her head around the idea that this terrible death was part of God's plan.  Being a Momma myself who has had to watch her son endure some traumatic events, makes me want to weep.  There is nothing like witnessing your son endure hardships and having no control to stop it.  I am captivated by Mary in this video and I hope you enjoy it.

I am one of the people that cannot handle the Passion of the Christ movie.  It is to graphic and brutal for me.  I know that is how my precious Jesus died, but I cannot watch it.  This video is even hard for me to watch.

Tonight to make the Easter story more real to my children, we made empty tomb cookies.  I will post the recipe in another post, but I love that each step of the recipe has a coordinating bible verse.  I love that on the eve of Easter, my babes had the bible open in our kitchen.
Here is Miss Priss with the iPad, mixer, and bible!! Just what every good cook needs in the kitchen:) I used this recipe www.faithfulprovisions.com for this activity.

Each step of the recipe had a coordinating scripture based on Jesus' death.  Kyle was our bible reader and Hope and David worked the mixer.
Here is sweet Dave reading about the death of Jesus from the bible.  He did not like the smell of the vinegar or the taste of the salt:)

My sweet Kyle reading from the bible.

For these cookies you preheat the oven and then when you place the "tombs" in the oven you must turn the oven off and seal up the tomb.  Here is Hope sealing up the tomb with her tape.  Just like Jesus' mourners, we had to walk away from our cookies and hopefully they will be ready tomorrow morning for Easter!  I desperately want my children to grasp the love that Jesus has for them and for us that He willingly died on that cross so that we can all be together in heaven.

Easter is truly my favorite holiday.  I love celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas.  I get weepy and sentimental thinking of young Mary swaddling a newborn Jesus.  Easter; however, is my favorite.  I hate thinking about the cruel death he endured, but the fact that the grave could not contain Jesus and that He is alive now overwhelms me.  The same Jesus that endured this horrific death is the same Jesus that has comforted us and wiped our tears during these last few months. Happy Easter and may we always carry this gratefulness in our hearts that we have during this season.

He is not here; he has risen!

Good Friday Indeed

Today has been a wonderful and perfect Good Friday. It has been full of sunshine, friends, love, and fun.  Did you notice the new blog pictures and layout? I am just now getting around to adding all the new pictures that Kay Clawson took of our family before we left for the hospital gala two weeks ago.  She took new pictures of the kids individually as well as family pictures and girls/boy pictures:)  Local friends, if you need pictures taken of your family, contact her.  She is so patient and great with kids and families.  She got a ton of pictures in twenty minutes in our yard:)

Today we did a kid swap with the Grubb family.  Kyle went to their house to play with Tanner while Kelsey came here to play with Hope and David.  I could do a whole post on the wonderful blessing of a neighborhood full of kids!  They are such a blessing to us:)
David requested pizza for lunch, so we had a pizza picnic outside!  The weather has been so beautiful.
Ashley got here and it was time to decorate easter eggs!  Sadly, Tanner and Kyle were too old and cool to dye eggs:) Toni and I lamented how fast our boys are growing up, because they were too busy playing two square and baseball to decorate eggs.  Sigh.
Ashley and David!!!

Sweet Kelsey and David.  Not only are they neighborhood BFF's but classmates at school as well.  Kelsey is such a kind and sweet friend to David.
David and Hope working very hard on their eggs.  It took Hope a minute or two to warm up, then she loved it and had such fun!! These pictures make me realize that David's last chemo round wiped out the rest of his hair:)
The finished product!  (Notice the pink egg in the front that Ashely did!)
These pictures were from the gala:)  The Robinson girls....and then the Robinson boys below!
A little brotherly love that Kay captured spontaneously!

To end our awesome Good Friday, our friend Kelly Marchant delivered this adorable bunny bread to us!  It is too cute to eat, but we will enjoy it:) Kelly not only has a huge heart, but she is an amazing cook/baker:)  Thank you Kelly!

This Good Friday has been such a blessing to us.  We have enjoyed being at home and the kids have had a blast playing outside.  We are so beyond thankful for "do nothing days" where we an catch up around the house and enjoy not only our kids, but the kids in the neighborhood.  On this Good Friday, life is indeed good.
