Simply Amazing

Today has been a simply amazing and wonderful day.  First off this morning we went to the doctor's office for David's labs.  This has been a pretty traumatic event in the past, but today those ladies at Family Physicians of Marion rocked it.  Very little stress and we were out the door! 

As a reward for being so brave for labs, we went to a nearby playground to play.  While we were there, we got the call from Margie the Nurse practicioner that his labs were great (except for a low hemoglobin) and that it was fine to go visit school!!!  We got quick baths and then headed to Marion Family Pharmacy for teacher gifts.  (Local folks if you need a gift for any occassion-go there.  They have some amazing things at very good prices!)

Anyway, as we were walking in the door at the pharmacy, our oncologist called my cell phone.  My heart sank, but she started right out that there is NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE in his scans and they are clear!!!!!  Praise the Lord we were so excited!!  He does have a tiny paracardial effusion which means fluid around his heart, and Dr. A does want an echocardiogram the next time we come in.  She is hopeful that it is just fluid left over from his virus two weeks ago:)  So with clear scans, good labs, and big smiles we headed to Marion Primary. 

Today was the first grade program.  David amazingly got to participate and pause the blog music to hear the special award that David received today.  You may want to grab a tissue-heaven knows I was sobbing like a baby!! AFter the video cuts out the entire gym gave him a standing ovation.  I am still tearing up thinking about all those sweet first graders cheering for our boy!  Thank you God for such a special moment for our Rock STar. 

David is always a little shy when he first comes back to school, but here is Mrs. Amazing Hubble coaxing him out of the closet!

We have so enjoyed our two years with Mrs. Hubble-she is such an amazing teacher and sweet soul.

The class had tye dyed David and Rocky Duke a shirt for the program! Here is sweet Kelsey and David having a happy reunion!

DAvid and Rocky Duke cheesing for the camera.  Rocky Duke has been David's monkey in his chair this year to keep David's seat warm while he had to be away for treatments and hospitalizations.  The class and staff have enjoyed Rocky Duke and Mrs. hubble has posed him each day and sent us a picture when we were away:)

David and the three ladies that have kept him going this year!! Mrs. Hubble, Ms. Collins, and Ms. Alley!  These ladies have hearts of gold and we are so thankful for all their love for our Rock Star!

David was a little too shy to sit with his class during the show, but he sang from Miss Alley's lap!  She has such an amazing gift for working with special needs children.

To celebrate such wonderful news today and to celebrate a wonderful year with wonderful friends, we took some mini cupcakes and juice boxes to share with his friends after the show. I caught Miss Priss feeding David his cupcake:) 

Our hearts are so full of gratitude for such wonderful news today from the scans.  Praise God he is free of nodules and cancer at this time.  I am so thankful to God also for such an amazing school like MPS.  Their love, support, and encouragement for David this year has truly been mind-blowing.  I still reminisce about the welcome back he received in December, all the cards, pictures, and love.  We praise God today for such wonderful news and such amazing and generous love for our boy-we are all grinning and wiping away happy tears. 

Amazing

This weekend has been simply amazing.  We have not thought too much about UVA and those scan results and we have just enjoyed our time together at home.  These pictures are totally out of order, but here is David eating some yummy food:)  When we came home from the lake tonight, the McKinney family had brought us dinner.  We were hungry and tired, so it was such a blessing to have such good home cooking waiting for us.  Thank you McKinney family for such a treat!!

Have we mentioned how rotten David is?  He loves to have a picnic on our bed to eat and we typically indulge him.  He loved the McKinney's macaroni and cheese!!!

Saturday, I went to the Heart of Women's Conference and spoke at one of the break out sessions.  I met some amazing women that love our Jesus, and I enjoyed my time there.  At the conference there were a few tables set up and there was one about abortion.  Of course I lingered there and on display they had a model of a twelve week fetus.  Lots of abortions are perfomed this early in a pregnancy and as you can see there is a perfect baby made by God. 

Today was a wonderful day at the lake.  This was our first trip of the season and the kids were so excited.  I got a lump in my throat packing our stuff for the day because since our last trip up there last summer we have been through so much as a family.  Last time we were there David had a full head of hair and cancer was never a thought in our minds.  Above is a picture of Kyle and our neighbor Lexi Kiser tubing in the frigid water!

The lake is a perfect place for David because he LOVES the boat and there is lots of shade due to the dock. 

This girl had a ball fishing with her new Tinker Bell fishing pole that her Pops got her!! 

David was in pure heaven driving the boat with his Pops.  It made us all so happy to see David full of energy having fun.

David caught a "big" fish and Pops and Kyle cheered for him to bring it in!!

How precious is this sweet face! Ashley went with us today and we just asked Pops and David to drive us around in the boat.  There is something about the water that makes all the stress go away for me. I grew up going to that lake and it soothed my soul so much to be up there soaking up some Vitamin D and enjoying watching our Rock Star have some shade but outside fun!  Days and weeks in the hospital make you appreciate days like today so much where the sun is on your face and the wind is blowing your hair.  I felt so relaxed and thankful today for such a wonderful day on the lake!

Finally Home!!!

We are finally home after a long, long day at the hospital. I was really frustrated with us for goofing up the food which pushed everything back and then we were put off two hours additionally. I was disappointed that I had to miss tonight's portion of the women's conference and I was just grumpy today.Like always, David was a trooper and handled lots of anesthesia well. The sad thing about Friday afternoon scans mean that by the time we were finally finished no one was around to read them. So sadly we will probably not know any results until Monday.

We are all five under the same roof again tonight!! I am so thankful for the Grubbs for taking care of Kyle this afternoon and for feeding him. Mike gave me the best gift on the way home and took both kids in his car which gave me three hours to think, pray, and sing. Sarah martin has made me some wonderful cd's and I got my praise on tonight. I prayed so hard abut speaking tomorrow at the conference and I just prayed that I will represent Him well tomorrow. I cried over the agony Alyssa's parents are enduring tonight as they wait for her biopsy results. It was so wonderful to have that time tonight to just let it all out. Sometimes a good cry makes you feel so much better.

Mike will have the kiddos tomorrow as I head to the womens conference. A weekend at home is such a beautiful gift. Unless he needs a transfusion or gets sick, our next treatment is scheduled for June 4th. We are hoping he can visit the school sometime this week, but his labs today showed that his counts are on the downside from chemo this past Monday so we will have to check his counts Monday before heading back to school.
