Clinic Visit

Pops, Dave, and I are in Charlottesville tonight after a long day in clinic.  Despite stress over labs, David really loves going to see our UVA family.  Dr. B thought David looked great and his labs once again were hemolyzed and not accurate:(  His Creatinine (which we trust) is holding steady at .8 which is good for him.

Sadly clinic was insanely busy today.  Not only with oncology patients, but with lots of other specialty clinics going on.  I was a little emotional starting our appointment today because our first stop was to the newly renovated Ronald McDonald House to drop off an SUV load of pop tabs.  Thanks so much those who saved them for us and please keep them coming.  The RMH house is truly appreciative of any pop tabs they get:)

Being back in the house brought back lots of sad memories from those first scary days.  It is gorgeous now but it still brought back lots of memories.  Then we went to clinic and I realized that this would be the last time we would be there-we have spent hours upon hours in that clinic and the next time we come it will be to the new building.

Dave loved seeing Dr. B and we overall got a good checkup.  We are staying over tonight to attend the Battle Building opening at the new UVA Children's hospital.  We drove by it today and it looks so gorgeous!!  Can't wait to see the new space that the staff is so deserving off.

Off to snuggle with my Dave.  He got a new pair of cool socks for being so brave with his labs today-we used to reward him with a trip to Toys-R-Us and now he wants to go to the sports store for a pair of cool socks:)  Our boy is growing up.  Thanks so much for all the calls, texts, and prayers today.

Summertime and Rahab

This has been our first official week of summer break and we are loving it!  We have spent hours at our local pool, been to the movies with friends, signed up for summer reading at our local library, and slept in a little.  Summer is our favorite time of year around here!

One of the things I do a lot of in the summer is read.  I am an avid reader.  Christian fiction is my favorite but I will branch out to other things.  This past week I read a book about Rahab from the bible.  It is true to the biblical account with the author taking some literary license to write in some details.  I have read the biblical account this week and this book and I cannot stop thinking about Rahab.

Rahab was a prostitute in the city of Jericho.  She heard of the Israelites and their God and when two Israelite spies came to scout out Jericho before invading, she hid them.  Because she was brave and saved their lives, when the attack on Jericho came they in turn, saved her and her immediate family from doom.

It astounds me that a prostitute that probably did not trust many men, chose to trust in a God that she could not see.  She put her life in danger for the Israelite spies to help God and his army.  A woman that made her living off of men using her chose to trust to unfamiliar Israelite men simply because they came in the name of the Lord?!  Her faith in God amazes me and has touched me this week.

If Rahab, in a city that did not worship God, could chose by faith to trust in our living God why do we have such a hard time trusting?  I have wondered this week if I would have been brave enough like Rahab to harbor two strange men for God?  Would I have waited patiently trusting in the red cord she placed outside of her home so the Israelites would remember her and save her like they promised?  If I was Rahab, I might have heard those walls of Jericho falling and tried to take matters into my own hands instead of waiting patiently for strange soliders to see my red cord hanging from my home?

Oh to have the faith in our God like Rahab!

Last Day Fun and Sweet kelsey

The last day of school was sweet yet emotional.  I was in David's classroom helping out with a pizza party when Mr. Harrington the School Resource Officer came in and asked the children if they were ready for summer.  They were all working on their morning work and every head turned around and said "No!" What a testament to David's classroom teacher and all the professionals that work in that room!  When kids are sad it is the last day of school, then good things are going on in the classroom.  Ms. Umbarger started crying:)  What a precious moment.

David and his two BFF's-Kelsey and Jocie!  What precious souls these girls have-Dave is one blessed dude.
David and two of his beautiful teachers-Ms. Umbarger and Mrs. Dyess.  David has a crush on both of them and wanted to wear his muscle shirt on the last day of school to show off his guns.  Thank you ladies for loving David just as he is.
Yesterday was Hope's last Tball game!  She has loved every moment of it.
She takes it seriously and I love watching her run-she gives it her all.
Her sweet little team.  Thank you Kelly for being the real coach and having a clue of what to do!
After our last game we had cupcakes and juice boxes!  Each player got a little trophy and medal.
David's teacher did this precious 5x7 picture of each child holding up a poster saying what they want to be when they grow up!  David said he wanted to be a professional ball player:)
Each year on the last day of school we head to Hungry Mother to swim.  This year the weather was gorgeous and they had such fun swimming and playing together.

Please say a healing prayer for David's friend Kelsey.  Several hours after being home from school on the last day she fell in her yard playing catch with her Dad.  She broke her radial head in her elbow and had to have surgery yesterday morning.  We went and visited her and took her some food.  She is beautiful inside and out and my heart breaks that this is how she is starting her summer vacation.  David was scared to get close to her because of her boo boo, but he and Hope have prayed for her.

Welcome Summer of 2014-we thought you would never get here!
