Oh Happy Day!

Today has been a banner day here in 7 Central!!! David got his nose tube out!!!! This is awesome because it was aggravating him and getting it out is the first step to getting some liquids on his own!! Praise be the Lord!! His catheter also came out today!!! We are slowly getting unplugged here and that is a victory!

The highlight of the day was a visit from the music therapist! Bet you can't guess what song he requested her to sing??? Big Green Tractor no less!! We all jammed and sang and this was his reaction.....

Don't you love it? This is the first happy joy smile we have seen since before he went into surgery. Music therapy was truly the higlight of the day for us all. She brought instruments, and her guitar and we all had a good old-fashioned sing along! She is coming back tomorrow:)
He even felt good enough to play his new Ipod!!

He took another ride in his fire truck tonight and he was more interested in playing Angry Birds than sightseeing, but we are thrilled that he is sitting up to decrease chance of pneumonia. That has been a fear of mine, so I do push him to sit up.

Pops, Mike, and Dave walking the halls! This picture makes me smile.

The best news of all is that we just heard from the oncologist. The nurse came to our room and said that she wanted to speak with us on the phone. I was petrified that it was the bad kind and we needed to start Chemo ASAP, blessedly she told us that the preliminary results just came back and indeed it is a Wilm's tumor, but it is the FAVORABLE KIND!!!

I am bawling writing this because this is such a huge relief to us. Yes he still has stage four cancer and yes we are facing a long road of chemo, but now that we know it is the favorable kind, we get to particpate in that clinical study and this favorable type is more amenable to treatment. Glory to God!

Today has really been a great day. We took a lot of baby steps today and we received some the news that it is favorable. Mom and Dad brought Hope to visit and we took her out to supper to a pizza place we love while Mom and Dad stayed with Dave.

I know we still have a long road to go, but we are praising the Lord that he has heard our pleas and prayers and today we received some positive news:) Please continue to pray that the lymphatic fluid stops. It is still draining a lot, and we really need it to stop soon. If it does not then David will have to stay longer and receive his nutrition through IV:(

The oncology team is meeting with us at 9 a.m. to talk about the next phase and his treatments. Please pray for that meeting-it is rally hard to use words like oncology, cancer, chemo, etc... Someone dropped off a book today titled Children With Cancer and I wanted to throw it across the room.

We love you all and lets all celebrate this little victory!!! You all have approached the throne of Grace on our behalf and we are so thankful! We will keep you posted after the oncology meeting tomorrow

  9. Hello Laura, My sister-in-law sent me your blog, because your story touched her and I too, am a Mama of a boy with Down's Syndrome (I began blogging about our special needs family in March). I am so glad she sent this to me, sister. As I read David's story, I want to be in prayer with you for your boy-- and for you and your parent heart.

  11. Praise the Lord! Tears are streaming down my face as I read this! You may have a long way to go, but God shows through in your attitude and your positive outlook. Do you happen to have a link to the facebook group? I looked for it on there but can't seem to find it. Again, I am friends with Christy Bailey and Jonathan Jonas from college (and Kimberly Williams!), and am praying many prayers for you in Scott County! Mike may also know my father in law through Superintendent stuff...Paul Stapleton (he is in Halifax County, but from Scott County originally). Praying many prayers!!

  12. Laura, your faith in God is so inspiring. You and your family is an inspiration to everyone. Ethan came home today letting me know that in bible today they made cards for David. He wants to know about him when he gets home and loves looking at the pictures. It makes us smile to see him smile. He is such a brave and strong little man. He has won everyone's heart here in Smyth County and everywhere else. God has him and your family in his hands and this community has him and your family in their hearts and prayers.
